Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage Therapy

I became interested in research into Lymphedema and Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) due to my relationship to the love of my life of 33 years, my wife.  For as long as I have known her she has suffered with congenital lymphedema ( a birth defect of the lymphatic system). Many physicians misdiagnosed her cause and said she had to lose weight to get better.  Whereas they may have been correct as to what needed to occur, only a few investigated further to the underlying cause. She was in pain. Her feet would swell if she stood on them for more than a few hours. Diets would provide no results.  If she moved more, she would be in more pain. If she moved less, she would swell more. There had to be a better solution. In 2006, I started my career in massage and endeavored to find solutions to make her life and others better through massage.

MLD Massage therapy is for those who suffer with lipedema, lymphedema, cancer recovery (removal of lymph nodes), surgery recovery and other conditions where more circulation for swelling is needed to occur.  This treatment will help reduce pain, reduce swelling in tissue and joints, improve circulation of fluids and tissues. It will help improve balance by removing fluids that affect asymmetry of one leg over the other.  The flushing of the lymph nodes helps with range of motion in joints reducing the swelling for much needed movement. Hard spots get softer or lessen in number. As a result of MLD massage therapy, the immune system improves because lymph nodes are able to do more of their job in fighting infection instead of waste reduction.
Most who receive MLD are in less pain for longer periods of time, lose weight, and are able to move better as their body rebalances.
