Reiki Therapy: How can energy work help your body?

Reiki is a form of hands on healing either through direct placement of hands on a client or hovering over an area needing healing.  Reiki translated from Japanese stands for universal life force or chi.  It is our energy that is the main focus of healing.  Our energy can become blocked, whether physically, emotionally, energetically, mentally or spiritually; one system can affect another.

If one looks at the human body, we are a bio-electrical chemical system.  One cannot contract a muscle without a chemical and electrical change.  Reiki works on the electrical and energetic systems to promote change in the whole body.  Reiki does not directly cure diseases.  It is a way to manage symptoms and facilitate change.  As change in the body is a gradual process it may take a few sessions to notice improvement.

Perry has been practicing Reiki for more than 24 years, and here’s what he has to say about how he uses it as a massage therapist:

I have found it useful to give me an intuitive sense of what is going on in the body.  My clients have reported that my hands get warm.  One treatment removes the sting of sunburns in less than 15 minutes.  For those with sensitive scar tissue it has helped promote healing and change in tender areas where touch or massage would be too painful.  After a few sessions the tender area is able to receive massage and deeper work can be done more quickly than before.

For those who have had a whole reiki treatment, they have found themselves calmer, better able to sleep, less stress and a better general feeling of wellness.  One does not have to touch to feel better and can receive a treatment that is beneficial to them.
